"The Tiny Dancer & the Dragon”

I found it among the lemon grass

along the mountain stream

'twas the most amazing sight

something I'd not seen

I watched it from my secret place

I hid behind the reeds

I watched it as it scurried about

It was fire roasting seeds

It seemed to be quite candid

as it looked from side to side

I wondered if he'd seen me

in my 'reading' place reside

to myself, I thought a moment

then stepped out into view

I wanted him to notice me

for I was different too

perhaps he might be friendly

perhaps he might be not

but either way I'd take the chance

one friend is one more than I've got

suddenly we were face to face

this tiny soul and I

I swear I saw a little grin

as we looked from eye to eye

he stretched his wings out with a moan

then to my surprise he spoke

just one word...."friend" he said

this word puffed white with smoke

he bowed his tiny head to me

and nodded for a dance

I felt that he was lonely too

so thought I'd take a chance

I danced and twirled around the reeds

as he flew right along

his tiny wings made a humming sound

'twas like a sweet sweet song

Now we are forever friends

and dine on seeds and tea

This most unlikely misfit pair

my tiny dragon friend and me.....

nice voice, b.j.

interesting to read this poem, considering the book i am reading at the moment..."Innocence" by dean koontz...

similar theme of two very different people who feel they don't belong and have such a mistrust of others and others of them...and yet, they bond...like the speaker and the tiny dragon...both knowing they are different...they immediately trust each other.

That is such a lovely tale… and you make a great point, that we find beauty in the most unlikely of places, and that everyone is here on Earth has a purpose.
