Magnificent Giant

Magnificent Giant

A Poem by Shalini Dinesh (Poet's World)

Sleep darling closing your little eyes,
Kissing her cheek, mom brushed her ponytail,
Nodding her head with a frown,
Dainty darling wished for a bedtime tale.

Mom starts to think and continues as usual…..

The thick jungle covered in mist,
Trees so thick and creepers so vast,
Flapping bats found their way,
Roaming in the forest outcast.

Blades of leaves got chilled in mist,
Birds and animals slept far and near,
Howling wolf walked down the path,
Saw the giant and ran in fear.

The giant’s eyes blazed like fire,
Like the burning balls between the grass,
Looks so sharp and sight so keen,
Eyes so fiery, in color of brass.

Its velvety skin so smooth and soft,
Silky and shiny polished like gold,
Bright in orange and striped in black,
Features so daring and hunts so bold.

Walks like a queen and hunts like a king,
With its retractile claws so sharp and strong,
Hides from behind the bush watching its prey,
Pounces so high and pulls it even from a throng.

Dainty darling interrupted her mom,
Asked what the giant was called,
Picturing the giant in mind,
She asked if it swam and even crawled.

Tail like fur so long and thick,
Body carved so fit and trim,
Rules the jungle like it’s the king,
It can run so fast, crawl and even swim.

Her mom said the giant was ”The Tiger
Once it lived and looked so great,
So strong, magnificent and stunning,
To save it from death, man was too late!

Let’s not be too late to save the tigers, else we will have to say it as a story to our future generations.
Let them also enjoy watching the tigers alive!!

This is great. Wonderful poem about a mother telling her child about tigers and I too hope it doesn't end up being a tale of an extinct animal. You really did an outstanding job asking for help for the tiger in this manner, helps to point out why we should care.

Great job! I like how you had the mother tell of the extinct tiger. Hopefully this does not come to pass. It would be a horrible day if it ever happens. The poem flowed nicely and well-written.

Oh this is so wonderful! Not only have you written a terrific and well metered, meaningful poem, you've turned your post into a request for help to save the glorious tigers.

I admire this not only as a very fine, and in places very charming poem, but a real contribution to saving an endangered species .. kudos.
