Just Believe in Us

Just Believe in Us

A Poem by Shelly Bell

be like samson, push these pillars until my heart cave's in
be like Joshua, march around my walls of Jericho until they're no longer standing.
be like adam, open your chest to make me whole
be like Abraham believe my womb delivers miracles
be like David, lust for me apart from the life you're married to
be like Judas, betray your security, bc my love has convinced you

be like Abednego and freely step into this fire with me,
trust if the furnace gets hot we will still step out clean.
be Like Job, curse the day you were born,
depend on my love to keep you warm.

let's take a journey toward bethlehem for no apparent reason,
was that Jesus or Obama who coined the phrase change we can believe in
I'm that diamond in the sky that only a wise man can see.
just as the baby Jesus laid in a manger,
surrounded by a bunch of strangers
he was a God in human form,
you are that break from my norm.
If it wasn't for God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus or King James I guess there would be no need for this poem
but it's not about them
they just somehow led me to you.

get lost in my garden of Eden
yearn for my forbidden apple...
risk your power just to taste my apple's juice
let my streets paved with gold lead you to virtue
follow the poems I drop like gumdrops
just as the Bible leaves clues
My love is so faithful you call it the good news.

the four chambers of my heart  should be respected like synoptic art.
stretch your left arm into my left atrium the right into the right
lay your left and right legs into the proper ventricles
pulsate slowly to warm the icicles
hold both my breast in your hands
kiss the middle of my chest
these two pieces of me delicate, but unrelated
like the old and new testaments

where exactly are we going with this...
we're headed toward salvation
uncontrollable salivation
secreting verbal elation
from my mental Revelation..
prophecies are confusing
Is our free will free or will the apocalypse choose us
sounds like we all have the same fate
so all we can do is wait

we're not supposed to judge yet we believe in
judgement day.
so much to think about
there's so much that we could say
let's just shut up and make love
then pray we live another day to repent.

A amazing poem and story. I had to read it again. Such power and strength in every line. The built-up to the end was perfect. A excellent ending to a beautiful poem. Thank you.
