What Hindsight Exposes

What Hindsight Exposes

A Poem by Shutter Speed

Liberty?
from nothing but a rat
nesting into memories,
the glossy photograph of your brain
holding on just a little too long.
They're just nightmares now,
though,
compacted and ground
into the wrong answer
to the ultimate question.
The future is way too uncertain
to be an excuse.
Point and laugh
at what hindsight exposes:
a mindless smile
and too many a claustrophobic night
losing to a freakin rat
to feast on the waste of
too many a mindless contemplation,
too few a wrong answer
to the ultimate question.

Author's Note

Shutter Speed
I went on a "sailing excursion" for a week in which we discussed and wrote poems and short stories. I learned a lot and ended up revising a few things of my writing style that were supposedly "dull" before. So here's probably my second poem trying out this new style--tell me what you think.
