The Game of Silence

The Game of Silence

A Poem by The Silent Butterfly
"

The first poem I wrote.

"
Out of words to say
so we sit in silence
Hearing past the silence
we guess at our own unspoken thoughts

This is a game of silence.

"What's the point in a phone call
without words?"

Sometimes silence is the point
Not to fill our lives
with pointless chatter
But to fill our lives
with each other's presence

The game changes
At first it could be breaking the silence
just to receive a deeper one
Then it's seeing how long you can go
without a single word

At first it's light hearted.
Entertaining even.
But before you know it
it's taken a dark turn

The silence forces you into madness
The endless possibilties of what he's thinking
scream inside your head until you lose it
Until you've lost your grasp of reality.

The Game of Silence.
It's addictive.

They'll try to pull you away
they say "Hang up."
"Let. Him. Go"
But you can't.

There's no way out.
You choose this madness
Over your sanity.

You've become hooked.

We have all been there. It's already over, but if nothing is said, maybe it lasts a bit longer. You put the reader into that lonely, and now silent place, that breaking hearts dread. You nailed it girl!

Like some of the thoughts on silence here and how they are placed together. The first stanze stands out I feel above the rest.
