i do not want to fall in love

i do not want to fall in love

A Poem by the lone star

i do not want to fall in love.
i've listened to countless people say it's one of the most incredible experiences ever. if that were true, tell me why it's called falling in love. falling is a concept where pain is felt. fall off the stairs, break a limb. fall off a ledge, break your skull. fall in love, break your heart.
i do not want to fall in love.
i do not want to be stuffed into a narrow space where i can't let myself be who i want to be. granted, it's not always like that. really, i'm just making up excuses.
i do not want to fall in love.
i do not want my heart shattered into pieces like glass you hold in your hand as you watch them slowly replace you with another. i do not want to be the love letters you threw away and are now sitting at the bottom of a trash bag.
i do not want to fall in love.
as it is, i had to wait. but i was the only one who waited.
i do not want to fall in love.
but i still do.
i still do.
