Anthem (The Youth of the Nation)

Anthem (The Youth of the Nation)

A Poem by William
"

"We are, we are the wronged."

"

we are an unrequited dream,

we are a memory’s ghost.

we are a weakening seam,

we are an angelic host.

we are life,

we are death.

we are strife,

we are rest.

we are right,

we are wrong.

we are helpless,

we are strong.

we are the youth of the nation,

we are survivors of war.

we are kings and queens,

we are children of divorce.

we are captive,

we are free.

we are nothing,

we are more than we seem.

we are infinite,

we are splintered.

we are permanent,

we are a fragment.

we are the fire you started,

we are the storm you’re chasing.

we are the scheme you plotted,

we are conspiring.

we are soldiers,

we are martyrs.

we are sons,

we are daughters.

we are ten thousand fists raised high,

we are the voice of a thousand strong.

we are ready to fight, to die,

we are singing our war song.

we are caught in an unfair trade.

we are hostage in political parades.

we are stuck in endless charades.

we are made from the darkest shades.

[and we refuse to fade.]

Amazing. This is really inspirational. My favourite line has to be 'we are the voice of a thousand strong.' Well done, this is absolutely brilliant

This poem really spoke to me. This is something my husband and I have been talking about - the generation that will save the world or end it. It's true:

we are ten thousand fists raised high,
we are the voice of a thousand strong.
we are ready to fight, to die,
we are singing our war song.

It is a different time, and those of us raised with violence and divorce and the rank fruitage of the free love hippie era are a very different generation. Those of us in our twenties and thirties hunger for a secure society we have never known, and we wonder what will be left for our own children. Can we do better than those who have gone before, those in power now? only time will tell.
