eavesdropping

A Story by Micheal Anderson
"

Listening to the things shouted into the void

"

What follows are statements I overheard a stranger talking on a phone say as I was walking home three nights ago.

“I know I was ugly crying so much.”

“I had to completely redo my makeup and everything.”

“well like she doesn’t want Jenny to know.”

“well someone should tell her, but I don’t want to.”

Shouldn't it come from her sister.”

“I guess will tell her after Tuesday.”

“She’s having pictures done on Monday.”

“Well yeah she'll want to have some nice pics before chemo starts.”

“Do you think I have to get something nice to wear for this.”

“That wasn’t funny.”

This is where I went into my building, and she continued down the street.
