The Christmas Spirit

The Christmas Spirit

A Poem by Shayna Joyce

Old bins filled with ornaments and trinkets
trees get barer and whiter
we bundle in our blankets
holding our hot chocolate a bit tighter

The christmas spirit glistens
as carolers go knocking and tapping
jolly melodies invite a listen
pausing our holiday wrapping

It's christmas morning, exactly 12 o'clock
the pine scent yearns for my presence
I toss and turn, watching the tick and the tock
forbidden to wake my parents

Merry christmas!
