Need

For those who struggle, like me.

Her hand shakes as 

She takes out the screw

Separating metal from plastic

Using a blade that's made for pencils

A deep breath

She bites her lip

As she drags it across her skin

Destroying perfection

It hurts

But pain is better than nothing

It's a feeling

Finally

And it's better than numbness, nothing

No one understands 

How she feels everything so intensely 

Yet still

Feels nothing at all

Empty

Alone

Words don't come easily to her

So she doesn't share her doubts, her fears

Holding in the dangerous thoughts

Trapped in her own mind

This is just a way to let something out

A vent

Opening to what has been

Kept hidden

And finally

Finally

This is pain that she understands

It's something of an explanation

Physical pain to make the mental pain

Go away

No one understands

That she needs this

This outlet

Because if she didn't have this

Something so simple

She might do something else

Something worse

Something permanent

Many way to bleed. Knife, drinking and drugs. The story is real in the poem for many people. The outlet of blood show you. You are still alive. When life is empty. Need a boost of some sort. Thank you Nicole for sharing the excellent poetry.

Overall this poem is very deep, and it speaks about sonmany people who go through this. Feel so much inward pain they wany to project it on the outside. I hope you arent feeling this way. But I put the line above in quotes because you can describe this in a stronger way i feel its weak in this poem.
