As Long as You Can Back Up the Claim

A Story by slfisher89

Cars shout at one another; their drivers bate expletives back and forth" verbal tennis. Typical five o’clock deadlock traffic. These attractions/distractions hold zero interest to apartment 123. In a stark white, military-like clean room Jeremy resides. He sits; on top his marine blue covers over cream-colored bed. His cafe au lait-freckled legs cross; head bent golden-hazel eyes hold intense focus. He scans a dictionary; finger gliding over words. Justice: the quality of being just; fairness. Finger slides down. Justice (law:) upholding what is just; especially fair treatment. Flips pages; Crime: a violation of the law. Flips pages; Vigilante: one who takes the law into their own hands. Flips pages; Hero: one admired for brave and great acts, He ponders; “justice is one’s opinion. Just for one is mistreat for another.” He unzips his duffle bag; notes a mask, speaker phone, teargas grenades, and a hand-written note. Then, zips it back up. Returns to his thoughts. “When one stands against injustice, their idea of injustice. Half scream criminal; the other praise his brave acts.” “One side brand him; crazed, unnecessary vigilante. The other chant hero. History recycles this tale; a needle-stuck record. An optical illusion; one’s view point changes the tale.” He smirks. Puts the duffle bag over his shoulder. Closes the door. Perception drives justice. Justice drives perception.

Very well written! Perceptions are not always truth, but so difficult to manage.
How many walk this fine line, believing their actions are good and right.
