Push It Back

Push It Back

A Poem by Sophia V

I push my past so far behind me-

Sometimes I forget that it's there.

But that's the point, right?

Push it all down till it disappears?

The problem with that is when it picks back up.

When a trigger presents itself in the most unkind manner.

That suddenly you're surrounded by you're worst fears and mistakes.

It's in the past. I know that.

But that doesn't change that stabbing feeling in my throat that comes so quickly..

The surprise of your past meeting you once again...

Like an unwelcomed ghost breathing on your neck.

It's painful.

It'll tear you apart.

But it's nothing worth dying for.

It's nothing too bad.

You'll open your eyes the next morning, breathe in that fresh air, and start anew once again,

Simply praying your last can't keep up.
