A Poem by Sophie

What gives us the right?

The right to rule?

Why do we know things

that animals can't dream of?

Why aren't fish the most dominant species?

Or dogs teaching us tricks?

What made our minds

evolve into ominous mysteries?

A cat can't comprehend

what made the toys it plays with

it barely knows,

that a purple mouse doesn't exist

Now, you agree with all this,

you know that fish don't understand us

but it's a lot different

when you say I can't love.

I am a few years younger than you

lacking in experience

but what makes me

incapable?

Yes, I AM fourteen

But is something in my brain turned off?

Just because I'm young,

means love stays unsung?

So, to you I'm just a cat?

Playing with a purple mouse?

And not really knowing what it does

or not really caring what it was?

Well, I believe I can love

in fact, I know it

and the fact that you don't

won't stop it.

Nobody really knows the answer to why humans dominate the world, hence why so many religions were created. And, it truly bothers me when people say teenagers and children are too young to love, or have a strong opinion about something. We know what love and hate is, we live in a world full of it. Nowadays, we aren't as blind as adults think.
A powerful poem. My words can't even describe.
