The Fighters

The Fighters

A Poem by Sophie

Sometimes, the fighters

are those you wouldn't expect.

Sometimes, the most desperate fighters

are those our minds neglect.

She walks low,

head down,

she never smiles,

she never frowns.

Not ugly,

not pretty.

Not nice,

not petty.

But I see a fighter.

She fights to be seen,

but is pushed down,

hidden in the seams.

She's a fighter,

inside her voice screams for freedom

She's a fighter,

filled with spirit and wisdom.

She just is,

just there

she's never happy,

she's never felt despair.

She's a fighter.

Fight for her.

As an introvert, this poem reminds me of a female introvert. People who are seen as outcasts of this society for not conforming to the social norms. It's not that introverts are abnormal, just deep thinkers who prefer to be alone unless accompanied by a true, loyal friend. And by being shunned by the populace makes one feel as if there is something awkwardly abnormal about them, but to continue on without giving in, to continue on being oneself is a fight in itself.

An introvert myself, I can understand the girl in this piece and the review Jeremy gave. The fight to be known and respected is shared by all, but not everyone can succeed alone. In this world we are all interdependent and need to help each other if we are to get along at all. A great piece. Thank you.

I like the thoughts and the desire in your poem. Never try to believe you know another. All of us have strength and weaknesses.
'She just is,
just there
she's never happy,
she's never felt despair."
A strong ending to a excellent poem.

It's a true power and a talent to see something good in everyone, even those where it isn't expected. To be able to see the fight in someone no one else would consider is a true honor

You keep doing it girl. So many girls and women fight for respect and what they believe in, even when they've had enough and they can't go on anymore, but nobody seems to notice. Nice telling!
