You Animals!

You Animals!

A Poem by spence

You animals that live taller than trees
Who put yourself above all of we
But still cannot see
Not clearly
Out of touch with the synchronicity
Of being part of an entity
That nurtures and sustains us all
While we live in cages
And pens
On Farms
And Factories
In Fields
With Fences
And displayed in shop windows
(Dismembered)
Set in your concrete and steel
We've waited through these ages
Generations of virtuous patience
For the Earth to overthrow
The usurper of nature.

Interesting. As you know, spence, I'm not really one for the poems with deeper meanings. I just don't think I'm clever enough to understand and appreciate them fully. But this one is very very nice indeed. It reminds me of an old Gary Larson cartoon I saw years back where the basic premise was how man considers himself to be master of the world. Yet we live in little concrete boxes while the animals roam free and live as nature intended. Who are happier, indeed. I miss your thoughtful insights. Come back to the Cafe!!
