Pick The Page

A Poem by StacyPerry

Deliver me from this fate,
The twisted thoughts I have within
I am not sure how much more I can take,
Hell, I don't even know where I have been
When I try to look back on this mess of a life,
All I can see is mistakes at quite a few turns
I feel daily the pain and the strife,
Even the harm that others did cause me concern
Yet then I think about the good that has occurred,
I do not think of the losses, but of the gains,
Even though this might sound a bit absurd
Even the ones who make mistakes can be happy when it rains
As every single thing we do creates the person we are today,
We must push forth and enjoy the time we have left upon this earth
We can't be saying "what if" and "if we did this" in a different way
As we would of never flipped to the page we're at on the "make your own story book" that we began to read at birth.

While I don't feel there was precision in the rhyme and meter, overall, I must say that the poem reads fairly well. It seemed to lose its way near the end, however. I would revise to rewrite the last two lines in particular. The overall tone of the poem is one that we can all relate to, and I like the fact that you chose to end the poem on a positive note.

even though we shouldn't say those things (or ask those things)
we do anyways. I think it's human nature. Especially when
things make no sense at all. with that said, every experience
is a stepping stone to the next which creates a path to our
destiny. Fate is a funny thing. Well done.
"Wash Away Those Years" by Creed is playing as I type this.
Kinda fits. It's been one of my own theme songs.

This was an introspective one and i could relate to it...

This was lovely..many a times when we are writing ..we learn a lesson or two from our selves and i am sure writing this was an enriching experience for you as it was for me...reading it.

A very positive poem and view of the hardships of life that we all go through. Finding the good things in life help get through the darker days and having an appreciation of how our life experiences shape us is a very good thing too. We are who we are because of our past/life experiences.

A very good write. My only suggestions are to change the word "of" to "have" in the last line and to break that line down into two lines to help the conformity of the structure. But the content of the message here is loud and clear and shines with a wisdom of its own. Well done!
