They Say

They Say

A Poem by AMetaphoricalSoul

I don’t dream at all

I don’t even breathe when I’m sleeping

That’s what I’m told

They say it’s like I’m dead

But I’m told that I’m a light sleeper

They say that I am frightening

Not just when I’m sleeping

I’m told my eyes look like death

And my strange silence is murderous

They say that I don’t belong

That I am an outcast

They make it seem like everyone is out to get me

I’m told that I am unloved

“Who would love a freak like you?” they say

I listen to them

And I cry

Should I keep on listening to the voices in my head?

I really like this.
The poem initially led me to believe that someone was telling the character all of these things about him/her self but then
the final line sets things into place & perfects the poem.
Excellent write!
Love it love it love!

That's a really good turn you used as the last line. I really like that, because the narrator is thinking of one of two things: firstly, the narrator could have dissociative identity disorder (split personalities), so he really does have voices in his head; secondly, the narrator could be a more philosophically based character that clings to the theory that life is all just an illusion in his mind, so anybody he knows in "reality" is just a figure of his imagination. Really good stuff!
