Behind Your Smile

Behind Your Smile

A Poem by Alex P.

You look at me with guarded eyes,
I quiet, for I know I’ve said too much.
Your tone is so even when you speak,
So calm,
So cold,
It’s strange to me.

You tell me I’ve wronged you,
Made you hurt,
Again.

I apologise.
Again.
And again.
You should never feel that way,
Not by my hand,
Nor by anyone else’s.
You deserve so much more.

My insides twist to knots,
My heart stabbed by invisible blades,
My head spins,
I can barely see through the wetness in my eyes…

Is this what you feel like when I hurt you, too?

Suddenly you’re smiling,
Ok again.
Still, I hate myself,
Blame myself as I should.

You hold me,
I promise never again,
My heart heals,
My stomach, unwound,
Everything’s okay again.

But I can’t help but wonder,
What’s hidden beneath those guarded eyes?
What’s still veiled behind that smile?
I’ll never know.

I may not want to.

It is always hard to read a person who hides their emotions or allows their logic to be primary in their actions. How can see the soul of a person with cold eyes of logic touch. I liked this write it was nice to read and enjoy.
