Here's to Being Alone

Here's to Being Alone

A Poem by Alex P.
"

Just something I wrote to get some emotions off my chest

"

Here’s to desolation,

The knowing of what’s to come

The way the ball of ice clenched tight in my gut

And the silver blade twisted deep into my chest

Here’s to the pain,

That won’t end this time

That will erode hollows into my soul

Until there’s nothing left

Here’s to the deadpan look

I know my face will have

And the way I’ll hide away

From everything

If only to make it hurt less

Here’s to the way everyone will leave,

Once they realize they can’t get through to me

And to the way that I’ll be,

Catatonic,

The last of my humanity leaving with you

Here’s to the thousands of retributions,

Of people rubbing it in my face,

Saying “I told you so” over and over again

Driving me further into sweet insanity

Here’s to the way my heart will shatter

So many fragile pieces splintered from the whole

Sharp as glass,

So picking them up again will cause even more pain

Here’s to knowing what will come,

If things don’t turn out right

I do like the artistic flare in this poem, I like how you dove into your subject matter and allowed us to really feel what was being felt here. In that excellent work! I think the pain we have inside make for the most powerful poems. So here's a toast to you, that the universe proves this poem wrong to you, by showing you victories in your life instead of losses.

This is a rather ominous piece. I certainly hope that it's not autobiographical. It's very dark and foreboding.
