Stones of Duty

Stones of Duty

A Poem by Julie Murphy, Julie Desin & Julie Stoddard

Put down this pride and pray they tell me
But I cannot - I must be free
Look at them, frozen in supplication
Time-worn beggars of foul reputation
And I see with a hundred eyes
Their whimpering, their tragedies, their lies
Their false hope and their hypocrisy
Thinly veiled, but oh! so prettily
Dressed up for the Sunday parade
Free will? Ha! it's a charade
They sing wooden praises to have no other god
Such a valiant effort and I applaud
But this too is false, a game to play
For between their black and white, no shades of gray
Laughter rings and sings a hollow tune
But if I dance and prance will you join me soon?
No. I think not.
I think you forgot.
You misplaced the knowledge of life with beauty
Picked up instead the stones of duty.

Well done. To have seen them carrying their burdens and tried to lighten them with this. Dance and prance onwards, noticing some tapping feet.

Life has been crazy for a very long time, but for now I have some time and will be trying to add more of my writing. I'll slowly be restoring them from my own back ups, though it may take some time. .. more..
