Parasite

Parasite

A Poem by Stephanie
"

For a friend.

"
It's as if you think
she has nothing better to do
than go around thinking of you
eating her cereal, thinking of you
buying shampoo, thinking of you
making a latte, thinking of you
going to sleep, dreaming of you

It's as if you believe
Really believe
that she will accomplish nothing
without you there
that your selfish reassurance
will drive her to please only you
in writing her papers, pleasing you
in quitting that job, pleasing you
in finding new dreams, pleasing you
in acquiring independence, pleasing you

It's as if you're delusional enough
conceited enough
audacious enough
to think that in setting her free
you did her a favor
when really you caged her
like the bird you always told her she was

What's worse is how shocked
how genuinely electrocuted
you will no doubt be
when she says
F**k this, F**k you
and takes back the life
you never knew you took from her

Interesting yet depressing how much power the person depicted in this piece gives to the object of her affection. Well written, and yet I would recommend looking the piece over for colloquial/common language. The more of yourself you insert into the piece, the more original it will become!

Cheers,

VK

Thanks for writing this. It was very good. I could relate completely to this. I have been on both ends of infatuation. It is indeed a parasite. The poison though is also the cure. It needs you to fail in order for you to understand. You will understand how life is. You will understand yourself. I connected with this.
