Labor Pains

1

A woman’s life is a story of unknowing

Can it be true? Is it for real?

Yes it is real

And you feel

The sun rise in your veins

The spring rains

Liberally shower

A woman whose power

Is kept inside her

Not to be seen

What will it mean?

 A being that is real

Is enclosed in the most secret

Pocket of Eternity.

2

A woman’s life is a story of waiting

Anticipating

The Pocket of Eternity swells

To the point of bursting

Thirsting

To be made real

But be warned

A woman’s life is a story of pain

A woman will strain

Be torn into pieces

Until the Pocket of Eternity releases.

3

A woman’s life is a story of loss

No matter how much it hurt

The Pocket, now empty,

Goes into grief

It all seemed so brief

The glory, the fullness

And now it is void.

A woman’s life is a story of weaving

Someone is leaving

So she gathers the threads

The wool and the loom

All that is left

She is not bereft

She works the loom and her fingers are knowing

Sewing

Together the remains of the past
