Whirly Top By Steppenwolf Life’s
so awful and she had lead such a sad life Life
is a whirly top falling on its side Side
by side they stood under the canopy Canopy
is protection from all life dishes out. Out
or in, say the rabbis, the canopy has to be there There
amid all the family and friends Friends
wish them well, then go their separate ways Ways
to be happy, ways to be sad. Sad
among the gadgets, the cars, and the kids. Kids
bring nachus so lift up your heads Heads,
yiddische kups, that’s what you get Get
when you remind yourself every day Day,
this day, is all we have Have
to fool around, waste time, and not think too much Much,
too much thinking, that, I think, was it It’s
so awful that she had to lead such a sad life. Note:
nachus is Yiddish for the pride you get from your kids. Yiddische kup is Yiddish for “Jewish
head” or thinking like a Jewish person. © 2015 steppenwolf |
