My Knight in Shining Armor

If Prince Charming is waiting for me

The way my mother says he is

Then why is he leaving me lonely

If my heart is already his?

My prince must be lost somewhere

In the woods or the swells of the sea

But search for him I wouldn’t dare

For I am sure he will come for me

Alone and scared I lie in wait

For my strong and handsome knight

But by and by, my mother’s promise

Is fading out of sight

I finally found my knight in shining armor

But for him I needn’t have toiled

For beneath his stunning, gilded armor

He was simply an a*s in aluminum foil

Ah. Quite a disappointing ending.
But then again, you set us up for this from the first stanza.
The mother that is part of the old generation keeps vouching for something that won't come,
And the daughter, of a different era, mindset and generation doesn't seem to swoon so easily.
Alot of meaning in a short poem.

Great write. Love the ending; it takes the fairy tale and molds it more into reality. One small thing: 7th line, I would write it as "But search for him I wouldn't dare" adding the 'for'.
