The Begging Man

The Begging Man

A Poem by Tori Waldrup
"

An old piece from my old account. Didn't hate it, so here it is.

"
They say he's a simple guy,
A fool down on his luck,
Dancing a poor man's dance
and trading smiles for a buck.

He's the kind of fellow without a dollar to his name,
Won't put green in your pipe but gets you high all the same.

Momma always warned me not to fall for a beggin' man,
but momma just don't get what it's like to hold a beggars hand.

Not a penny towards a ring,
Couldn't even afford a prayer,
But against better sense
You could bet that I was there.

Years of livin' low really heats up a lover's life,
But even priceless love is finally bound to die.

Not a fortune left behind
Just a widow left to wither,
when all that glitters is gold,
I guess it's good that I wear silver.
