Rain

A poem I wrote today. It was raining!

As I sit at a table

in a dimly lit room,

I hear the rain.

It hits the window

in a rhythmic

pattern,

slowly, calmly,

like a heartbeat,

steady and even,

never erratic,

calming

my nerves

as I drum

my fingers

on the desk.

It’s like

a metronome,

tapping out

the beats

for me to play,

or like a steady

drum playing

in the background.

it’s musical

and calming

and I don’t

feel so alone

anymore.

I have a friend,

one that I

can always count on

and that

will never leave me

or become erratic

in its behavior patterns.

And, what is that?

Is the sun finally

peeking its way

through the clouds?

As its rays

spread around

and illuminate

everything

in its path,

there is

no longer the

drum

playing in

the background,

no metronome

ticking out the beats,

and no steady

heartbeat,

promising that

life will go on.

I am left

with emptiness,

a cold, lonely feeling

settling in the pit

 of my stomach.

I am alone.

Ah, I love the sound of the rain... The sun coming out is a bit disappointing, but it does leave the lawn smelling wonderful. :P Great job, this poem is beautiful.
