I'd Like To Say

I'd Like To Say

A Poem by December Blaize
"

About getting over it and letting go

"
I'd like to say I mean this
And I'd like to say it's justified
But in the end
It's all pretend:
I wish you could've seen the tears I never cried.

When we said goodbye
I looked back too many times
Falling apart,
Breaking my heart,
Wasting my words on sorrowful rhymes.

I screamed and I fought and I lied
But this love I could not save,
Drowned in pity,
The sight wasn't pretty
And to my grief I was a slave.

We have killed whatever moved
And buried the dead beneath regret,
Now I walk away
With nothing left to say,
But laughing as I watch the sunset.

I think I've paid for my mistakes,
I think I've faced them and smiled;
When I see you
I don't see who I once knew,
Or maybe I let my imagination run wild.

As frozen branches erupt in blooms,
I too, have gained new life,
You could say
We've always been this way
And this truth has made me stronger than the knife.

Great line: "...this truth has made me stronger than the knife." Very powerful.
