The History of Herstory

The History of Herstory

A Poem by Poetic Shambles

She watched art house movies

as she smoked liquorice cigarettes,

it didn’t matter what language

as long as it was French or Spanish.

She wore lots of jewellery

that others had collected for her,

each had their own story

but it wasn’t hers.

She lived her life at night

eternally nocturnal,

she befriended strange men,

fraternally maternal.

She kept secrets from her family

in order to stay adrift,

her parents would never know

about all the chemicals that she’d sniffed.

This person was intelligent

but she just had mixed emotions,

thrown at a young age

into the depths of the ocean.

The tide made her bitter

to the ways of another

so she watches foreign movies

that she doesn’t understand,

just so that she can forget about the others.

Her story is tale of melancholy and a tattered heart...confused thoughts and feelings and the lack of a sense of self..most likely caused by family turmoil...we are made by our experiences and haunted by our pasts...it gives no hope...no happy end...but you execute it beautifully

This whole poem ebbs and flows just like the ocean itself.... a sad tale completely summarized by these lines::::
thrown at a young age
into the depths of the ocean.
The tide made her bitter
to the ways of another

It has a strong undercurrent that tugs you under its water...
But all the other lines are so deliciously liquid, you might gasp a little, but you don't drown...

eternally nocturnal
I just like the way that sounds
