Lost at Sea

Lost at Sea

A Poem by Susanna F

There was no compass on the bounding main

No North Star for my heart

No hope for my ghosting craft

Exiled from safe harbor

I slipped my moorings and strayed

Judged wanting by my captains

The mate who I thought knew me

Gave me up for sunk in my own storm

Right and wrong a shifting, hopeless tide

I weakened while adrift

Shameful how we spoke and clung

When you were not free for the taking

Those were moments of insanity

Hurting all who I had come to love

My conscience pierced me, broken hull

I foundered in despair

Into the cold grasp of the deep

Until the shattering waves came

And I was flotsam washed away

Yearning only for the day-blink

And stillness of a solid strand

Of forgiveness beneath my feet.

A very difficult time of unrest and no hope, as shifting as the Sea.

Let me just recap as it was a long one. Your use of metaphor was remarkable. I only wish that for you the torrent seas do calm, as the will, eventually. You are very talented and although times can be quite rough like the sea, she does bring beauty to life as her waves offer the sparkling wonders that reflect from the sun and the moon. Day or night see may offer solace. Even though at times we are tossed about in her storm filled rage, and sometimes are at the risk of drowning, there are always those that are here to offer a life line. Chin up. the storm will pass and you may once again gaze upon the splendor of the beauty she offers, the solace she reveals in her fluidity.

Obstacles and hardship are a part of life, and without them we would not grow stronger. Although obstacles are meant to be conquered, hardships are meant to be endured. Such as how we will sometimes feel as though we are lost alone at sea. When that occurs, just lay back and let the tides carry you. Nature acts only to maintain balance. All currents and paths lead somewhere, and if a force of nature is tugging at you, then without doubt something is amiss and nature is trying to fix it. Don't fight the tides, just let them carry you. It may be an unpleasant expirience, but those tides may very well be carrying you from something harmful, an imbalance. Just like the situation in your poem, you feel lost at sea and wondering if you will ever again feel any solid ground, when really it is just nature pulling you away from something that was not meant to be. And eventually things will balance out and you will wake up on familiar shores, or maybe even new ones. No one knows what waits for them in life, we just have to tough out the hard parts and see where our roads take us. And then next time you will be more ready for the next hardship that comes your way.

woah... beautiful. :) a perfect comparison - life's rough-and-tumble times, and the ferocious sea. it made me sad to think of all the troubles we go through in life, but there's always some lifeline or shelter out there to shield us from the breaking waves. i love it!

A profound description of being tossed and turned in the storms of life's seas... Powerfully voiced and filled with those shadows of sorrow and angst.

A wonderful piece in which you compare
your life to that of a ship insecure at
times, caught up in major storms.
You have survived and with a very small
tuneup you will be battling the waves again.

A perfectly beautiful story.

Thank you ,
---- John

Very good poem. Will read more of yours later, as time and tide permit.
