In Defense of the Innocent Scientist

In Defense of the Innocent Scientist

A Story by Rachelle

In Defense of the Innocent Scientist:

Why must we endure
The stings of disapprobation
And typecasts molded
By those who try
To sensationalize our existence?

We are merely the curious
We are merely here to ask questions.
We try to find answers
Despite our flaws and limitations.

We are not all men and women
Who play God.
Behind all this
Is a quest to seek the truth.
Just as people in all other walks of life do.

The capitalist, the zealot, the politician,
The celebrity, the lifestyle evangelist,
The artist, the musician, the writer….

There are others who attempt to play God, too.

Ethics is a powerful umbrella that encompasses us all regardless of our vocations. Scientists have been vilified for centuries, the Catholic Church was always chasing them with threats of excommunication or the Inquisition. People easily dismiss things they don't understand or things that don't fit into their view of the world. Scientific truth is provable but just because one is a scientist does not mean they are playing god. You are right, we should look at those craving worship with an arched eyebrow for so often they are the idols that many flock to.

Your welcome
I don't blame science. We needed nuclear energy. Can't allow 4 billion people to burn coal. It is man who is the problem. Hate and separation make the world went mad. In the 1800. People lived to be 40 years old.Today average is 80 years of life. I don't believe the artist, the musician or the writer had the power of the politicians in Washington. I liked the poem. You open the door to a pot of coffee and a long conversation. Science don't kill and murder. Men do. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

We as Humans are naturally born seekers and curious in many things... we just have to be open to the vas array of posibilities... but it is just that, most of us are too closed to change or new things. There is nothing wrong in believing the old cultural ways, but there is also nothing wrong in giving way to change... i guess what makes the old ways wrong is the person's perception gone cold, that he/she neglects what's already in form of him/her, the truth staring back at him/her... but then again, the definition of truth still varies, and we do still keep seeking it...

Very profound work, kabayan....
