From Fiber Fluff Yarn is Spun

A Poem by Norma M Sutton
"

thoughts on spinning wool into yarn

"

Soft intimate colors slip through my hands
Whirling twirling down down down
Pink and blue meld and blend into a sunset haze
Swirling twirling together in haste
Twisting changing as they go
Emitting a soft heavenly glow

Twirling on the other end
Dropping down down down
Wood and paint descend in haste
Pulling tugging in a twirling race
Turning fluff into lace
Singing on it's downward pace

Drawing ever finer it pulls
Fiber stretches thinner still
Twisting turning spinning down
Whirling twirling down down down
Until wood touches floor

Drawn back up until fingers touch
Around the shaft yarn is wound
And then back down
Whirling twirling its way down
Pink and blue meld once again
Swirling into a heavenly hazy lace

Miracle of change has occurred
Soft wool fluff turned into lace
Next step will be to ply
One to two or three or five
Once the plying is all done
Miracle of change has come

Who will take this new spun yarn
Knit it into a different form
Hat shawl sock or something more
Clicking of needles
Knitting knitting down down down
A new path of change begun

My wife is a seamstress. The poem remind me of her always busy with her hands. I like the movement and story in the poem. Thank you. A excellent poem.

Wonderful poem my friend! Reminds me of a story my Dine" Brother told when I was at spider rock in Arizona. This woman is weaving a rug and when she finishes the world will come to an end. That is the gist of the story but no doubt there is more to this story. Thanks for sharing your words with me.

Wow. I really like this. Very colorful. I love sewing and knitting, but I've never watched yarn being spun. The poem gave it such an intimate feeling. Very nice.

i am wearing a knitted scarf, it is autumn here in Australia. And as i was reading your poem, i couldn't help but touch it! It made me think about the life and process of my purple scarf! Well done :) x

wow that's time consuming, all that spinning, but
worth it when making shawls and garments. Saves
lots of money buying things at the store, I'd imagine.
cool video. I like this poem very much...so natural
and fascinating all at the same time.
