Outcast

Outcast

A Poem by Norma M Sutton
"

thoughts from the edge of sleep

"

That which I was raised to know

Looks at me suspiciously

Filling me with woe

That ancient line

Whos draw I feel

At least is kind

But see my suspicious past

Kind faces with sadness frown

Cruel was the die cast

Cut adrift from moor and port

Silently I drift past

Heart and soul set up a fort

Understand both sides well

Outcast past and future

Down a lonely path I sail

Nary side to wish me well

Journey toward the setting sun

Hidden stories I'll never tell

For I am Outcast

Outcast

Outcast

I really enjoyed this. It's sad, and the way the rhyme and repetition work, it sort of sounds like this idea is constantly being pounded into the speaker's head. Just two very small critiques: I think line two should be "LookS", because it's referring to "that". Line 5 should be "Whose". Lastly, it should either be "Cruel were the dice cast", or "Cruel was the die cast", for line 9. Sorry for the nit-picking, but the poem is so great, I wanted to let you know about these little details. Thanks for such a great and moving read.

It's funny how certain lines of thought come to us in those hazy states of consciousness. What is their source? What do they mean? These questions may not have answers, but yet, we're compelled to express them. I think it's called creativity.
