Adieu

Adieu

A Poem by Norma M Sutton

I gave up a friend today

His life and mine were twined

The sorrow I thought to feel

Is subtly sublime

I gave up a friend today

For his sake and for mine

And in giving up

I gained one new as a friend of mine

I gave up a friend of mine

Of who I still hold dear

But now I see clear and true

With eyes of happy tears

Of she and he a joy I feel

And grateful gratitude

For the one he chose

Has a heart of gold

I wish for them the best in life

I wish them peace and joy

I wish for them the best

For here and ever more

So now I wish you both adieu

And happily I watch you go

Arm in arm and hand and hand

For both of you I now hold dear

My sorrows are gone

For how could I weep in sorrow

For lost tomorrows

When I know you both so well

You sacrificed your friends and wished both of them adieu.
You got peace of mind in return.
This is how one is rewarded for the donation she/he makes.

Sentiments like this must come from a special place inside the heart and not many possess them. This is a warm poem and you did it very well. Your heart sounds bigger and wiser then most.

This is one of the most well written poems I have read in a while. I love the meaning and the feeling behind it! :) Great job! :)

My Dear Writing Friend,
I am sorry my posting of my thoughts on this write has taken so long, but I have been in the bush. Your poem was excellent with its delivery of mature emotion flowing through like a gentle warm rain on a summer’s eve. A treasure that I would think your friends will hold dear for life. I am not familiar with the word adu, what is its meaning?

Blessings, Laughing-Bear
