Thank You Dad

Thank You Dad

A Poem by RTB

My back sore from the ripped flesh just torn,

My face in the corner, tears drop as I mourn,

I fear that the same will go next to my brother,

Though I know through my actions he'll be saved by my mother,

I fall to my knees he yells back unclear words,

Telling me still all the things i deserved,

Hate it or love it this is the way I protect,

He takes from my inocence through pain and neglect,

But at least my families safe from what he could do,

I take all the hits to keep the evil from you...

Domestic absue is no laughing matter. People seem to think that it only happens to spouses, but in reality it's effecting kids too. I love the piece and you moved me. Good work.

Poems of this sort are sometimes bleak and devoid of flowery words (how could it be any different). That said, this is a decent rendering of a much-too-common situation. Thanks for sharing and for protecting. In the 9th line i think you mean 'family's' - contraction of 'family is' unless your talking about more than one family (then 'families' would be better).

:-)

Wow! Such a sad poem. Such emotion is just running the gamet in this story. I cannot relate on a level of such but in other ways I can. It's so sad to hear when a child is beaten and bruised! So sad.

What a sad but strong piece , full of emotion . Very well told . Its sad that this kind of thing still goes on unnoticed and unpunished.

d****t...we must have had the same father...i don't think i could have told this story better...got this knot thing in my throat...one thing i've told myself is that at least they taught us how NOT to parent and how NOT to be in a relationship...kudos, brother, you survived...
