Musical chairs

Musical chairs

A Poem by terry smith

I only go there for the donuts
the chairs are hard and cold
even though I am sweating
while a symphony of boo hoo's
encompass the circle
the violinist on my left
a first chair of sadness
then it is my turn
and I lie through gritted teeth
that I am fine
just trying to get through
the last ten minutes
till I can go outside
and breath

Something you are forcing yourself to do not willing to do! Nice poem. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for reading & the comment
i think you meant "breathe" in the last line...
but wow...yes, this has that feel of going to a meeting the first time because we are pushed to go...and don't really feel we have a problem...or just don't need others to be privy to what's wrong with us, actually...so we make up stories to mask our inner tears.

I surely will I just got off of work have a great day
Sounds like an AA meeting, or possibly some type of group therapy. Liked the spare, clear delivery, which enhanced the emotional impact.
