MOONLIGHT MILE

MOONLIGHT MILE

A Poem by KCthelastboyscout
"

how far can you run away from a ruined life

"
Endless road
Miles to go
...where am I going?

Driving in darkness
Freeway to highway
Tired...so tired
I pull over to the side of the road
Where am I going?

I roll down the window
Fresh air...feels good
At last, a clear mind
The key is in the ignition
The radio is on
One song fades out and another fades in
The guitar chords of Moonlight Mile begin to play

I don't know where I'm going, but I know why
Away from a place of painful memories
Away from so many wasted years of an unfulfilled life
,,,away from her
The song continues...

" In the window there's a face you know
Don't the nights pass slow
Don't the nights pass slow"

A moment of clarity
Back on the road
I know where I'm going, but I'm in no hurry to get there
I'm just going to enjoy the ride...

" I'm sleeping under strange strange skies
Just another mad mad day, on the road
My dreams is fading down the railway line
I'm just another moonlight mile down the road"

This is a true story based when I was a younger man. But unfortunately I didn't drive away for good. I turned back around to work things out and just made things worse

Sad song, love song, life song...lyrical form and style, rhythmic and musical with haunting words...”I’m sleeping under strange strange skies.” Yes, what a long, strange trip life is. Beautiful poem.
