"

the greatest love triangle in rock and roll history

"
Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me
I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how...

George Harrison wrote SOMETHING for his wife Pattie Boyd in 1969. John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the primary songwriters of The Beatles, called this the best song on the Abbey Road album. It has been covered by 150 artists making it the second most covered Beatles song after Yesterday. In 1999, Something was recognized as the 17th most performed song of the 20th century with over 5 million performances.

I tried to give you consolation/When your old man let you down/Like a fool I fell in love with you /Turned my whole world upside down...

Eric Clapton wrote LAYLA in 1970 inspired by his unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of his good friend George Harrison. Ironically, Eric was living with Pattie's younger sister Paula at the time. When the song was released and she began to understand its meaning, Paula broke up with Eric and moved out.

It's late in the evening she's wondering what clothes to wear/She puts on her makeup and brushes her long blonde hair
And then she asks me " Do I look alright?"
And I say "Yes, you look wonderful tonight"

Pattie Boyd left and divorced George Harrison for Eric Clapton. Finally, after winning her affections he wrote WONDERFUL TONIGHT in 1976. He was inspired by watching her at home prepare for a party.Three years later, Eric and Pattie get married. Throughout it all, George and Eric remained close friends. In fact, George attended their wedding. But the fairytale ended in 1989 when Eric and Pattie divorced.

George Harrison died November 29th 2001
Eric Clapton has been married to Melia Mcenery since 2002
Pattie Boyd, at 71, married Rod Westin, a property developer, in 2015. They've been together since 1994 longer than Eric George combined together...

i did not know that there was a love triangle though i love eric clapton's songs i was never a beatles fan but then by reading this article made me wonder why behind the lyrics of wonderful tonight shows a deep love and appreciation emanating from a guy.. it is one song that i can sense a man's deep love for someone and i never thought of whoever the woman was behind the song..thanks for this information

All kinds of love intrigue here--and as far as George was concerned, even more! He had an affair wit.. read more
I'm glad I discovered this KC. I didn't know the story but I suppose it wasn't unusual in that industry. I suppose in the creative industry love is a great inspiration and they don't come much bigger than these two. You just need to look in this site to see how much love (mainly unrequited) figures.
WELL DONE.

Nice job, KC! I also think it would be a good movie. Know what else would make a good movie? NOWHERE MAN! I mean MY book NOWHERE MAN. I thought of writing it as a screenplay; still may adapt it.
But I undress--I mean digress. Yes; there were some things in there that I actually didn't know.
My John knowledge, of course, is far more extensive than my knowledge of the other three ex Beatles.
You know more about the FAB FOUR THAN ANYONE i HAVE MET.
ROCK ON, KC--LONG MAY YE WAVE!

All so interesting--a chapter in my generation's fabulous history. I knew about "Something" and "Layla", but not "Wonderful Tonight". That Patty must have been one very desirable woman.
