Little Atlas

Little Atlas

A Poem by Shannon Miller
"

Me ranting through poetry

"
You were never there for me
You said you would be
But I was alone
I tried to be there for you
But what was I to you?
Maybe a
"Thank you
I love you"
But in the end
You forgot me
Bent over backwards
Poured myself out
But what was I?
I looked to you
For acceptance
Love and appreciation
And so I gave those to you
But you already had those
The things I didn't
So what did my actions
Matter to you?
I was just there
Maybe a prop
Or an extra
In this little play
Expendable to you
And so, manipulated
"Be this
Do that
Fix this
Not that"
On repeat
So hard I tried
So high the expectations flew
So low fell my self esteem
And what was it to you?
You were fine
I was not
It was irrelevant
The world revolves around the
"Sane" people like you
The "normal" eggs
And that's all you need
I am an extra
Supporting the stage
A veritable Atlas
But, my dear,
I love you still
And I'm here
Like I will always be
The supporting Atlas
With a net to catch you
Forever and always

Nice work, Lacie. Raw, pure, passionate, and such an unexpected, gentle ending. Human kindness and compassion, offered even to the undeserving. Please keep writing.
