The Car

The Car

A Poem by Ashe Conten

Wait for a minute
Check the speed limit
Why is it that I
Constantly ride
When I'm never
Allowed to drive

Why am I riding
in the back seat
Why are they driving
Instead of me
And I am fighting
Just to see
Where I am heading
And the life I lead

Ah!
They missed a turn
No just go straight
No GPS
I hear them say
"Just wait and see
Sit quietly"
But we're too fast
And I'm afraid we'll crash

Why am I riding
in the back seat
Why are they driving
Instead of me
And I am fighting
Just to see
Where I am heading
And the life I lead

I can't wait patiently
While they choose for me
Then they just disappear
And expect me to steer
Oh, but they never taught me how
So I start to freak out
Must I follow the signs
Have I broke the headlights
Help me I'm loosing my mind
I fear I've lost
my
mind.

Why did they leave me

in the back seat?

interesting take on the idea of authority. why we placed in the hands of people who give us every reason to point the finger at them and are very well unjust.

Only thing can be said is to change one's life for the better.
I was talking to person on the bus saying how we come from darkness to light in life if we choose to. Life is hard. Most people want it easy and realise either way that its hard work just to make up for one's mistakes. A cop sells you drugs and then arrests you for it. I know its messed up.
Put to think that anyones the ultimate authority in the matter of justice well. There's a word call being well and well off. so don't get arrested. and try your best to live a good life. good poem. and what they always taught in school try your best.

Nice! Reminds me of a song by Alvvays, 'how can I lose control when I'm driving from the backseat'.
I love the formatting, easy read but strong message.

This is a great piece.
It showcases a feeling of getting annoyed or neglected.
I must say you'll turn out a great story teller.
Keep writing:)

Wow there are many things and ways I can see and interperate this as, but the thing that stands out the most would be abandanment or however you spell it lol, I again love your rhyming because that is all I really do with my poems, beautiful piece I loved the flow of it, amazing.

Thanks! It is absolutely about abandonment, as well as a few other concepts
