the galleries of our minds

the galleries of our minds

A Poem by m.s.early

Then she asked, "Do you really want to know?"
Know...
And in the stillness of that moment I thought the word aloud
Know...
Considering the fallacy of reality,
I internalized the conception of existence;
It's an image in my mind.

When she sees  me, she turns her lovely eyes my way,
And I give myself to her completely once they meet,
But she only retains what she thinks she sees,
What she thinks she knows.

"Do you really want to know?" She asked.
She was about to divulge,
Deliver herself in words,
To enlighten me on the innerness of her "being".

The knowledge was ever present
I would only be aware of my perception
The context of her diction
In what it would describe,
And herself would exist in two pictures
hung in the galleries of our minds.

i like how this deals with how we see ourselves as well as how we see others and how they view us...and the question asked in this poem is so valid...do we really want to know?

Notional reality is referential to the points of perception-as we see it; while true reality or existence is not referential-as it is. In terms of psychology, when one questions to answer, he/she does it with his/her perceptions.. so 'two pictures' of same person, hanging in galleries of minds. A wonderful poem, written with a great depth.

What a great analytical poem about such a cliched situation as that where the young couple talks beneath the silver streetlight about how one of them does not "get" the other at all.
I see a scene already set and a type of man walking into it that understands how people work, dissatisfied with such knowledge but aware of it all the same.
It's so sad the amount of divide between any two people and the lengths we have to cross to even come close to understanding one another, empathy our bicycles across a desert of perception.
I like the freedom of this poem, although having a rhyme now and then might help engage a reader a little more, keep him/her from wandering away. I like the title, which reflects on the theme that runs through the poem, although I wanted something a little more relevant to the outside setting.

You always say something so cool, so wise about relationships Xavier! Reading it felt so good and insightful.
