my mother

my mother

A Poem by m.s.early

I learned everything I needed to know in a brown rocking chair

in little granny’s living room

safe in your lap

when I was still a child

Your eyes were always wet with love

soaking the stories of your family:

the rescued raccoon babies,

the wolves on little granny’s mountain,

the little house dug into its side,

your baby sister and the cereal box,

My ears were always dry and thirsty for your voice

and they still are mama

Feeling thankful and nostalgic.....remembering through your hands memories of mine.

I find these words full of warmth, telling of another time when honesty, love, and a simple life were prevalent across this land. I think my father's mother was cut from the same cloth as your granny.

beautiful....I had a cousin visit me from Georgia over the weekend and when she left she took a quilt my mother made, one our grandmother made and one our great-great grandmother made. Se told me she
was gathering a chronology of our history in quilts. It's funny but I remember what all of them were humming as they sat and quilted...

Thanks for the very timelessness of this. dana

It is a blessing to have a relation for son or daughter to his mother or father irrespective of her or his age, I can be wrong but I believe relations are the basics of life in positive and negative sense. It is hard to point fingers at people as limitations of people sacrifice the positive aspects of the bonds even if genetically bonded. I can freely tell to my mother almost everything and I feel she always understands me, as years go by I am so scared when that listening ear will leave me. I can relate to this poem so good, excellent job

brings me back to mrs mosey who lived her whole life without electric, plumbing, and lived off her own garden. she lived right behind our house. grownups ridiculed her, but we kids knew.
