My Conscience And I

My Conscience And I

A Poem by Catastrophe

Does the mirror tell me lies?
Is that what I really look like?
Or am I just hiding behind some weary disguise

No, you are what you see
Those eyes tell you no lies
The image staring back
Is the image they all recognize

What seems to be the problem? I do not recognize my own self
The person I saw in those pictures
Seems to be someone else

Yes, that was then my dear
You were younger; smaller
Look at you now
Older and wider

But I do not understand
I cause myself so much disgust
I never thought looking in the mirror would ever hurt this much

But who are you blaming
Me or the food
You stuff yourself to death child
Now just look at you

You could have warned me; could you have not
What a disgrace I am
Now look at where I've got

Would you have listened to me?
I'm only you're Conscience, do not forget
You make your decisions you either stand by
Or regret

So what am I to do now?
How can I love what I once saw?
How can I go back to that girl I once was

There's no going back
You are what you are

Or

you could put the plates down, child
And learn how to starve
