Dinner at the Patel's

Dinner at the Patel's

A Poem by Pooja Patel
"

A poem about the Indian diaspora, and the pressure put on the lives of second generation children of immigrants explained using the cultural importance of food.

"

As the offspring of immigrants

who arrived in this country

on nothing

but empty stomachs
and watered down hope

to appease the hunger,
failure is not an option.

Everything sits on the table.

Tonight,

daal and roti;

hopes and dreams.
