A Many Men and Women

A Many Men and Women

A Poem by *joy*

Swinging in the moonlight
Swinging in the sun
It was 1692 when the swinging had begun

Away to Gallows Hill -nineteen so they say
A many men and women
Made to sway away

Let them all concede
Let them cry out in denial
But jury knew the truth in their witchy little trials

Each and every one was tainted by the black
Every body, mind, and spirit
Accused and then attacked

Mistaken town of sinners
Mistook truth for lies
We will not forget when the devil was Salem’s guide

I have always wanted to read the Salem trials properly. Could you suggest a good book or anything?
Even though im not 100% aware of the entire story i have a gist of it. So i can say that this poem was quite good. The swaying part, different to 'choking.hanging' all the other words associated with a hanging. I really like it! Also your poem was very nearly an acrostic. That takes skill.

Nice poem and interesting. The Salem Witch trials were always interesting to read about. It must have been a really scary period to live in.

Good poem.
