Welcome To My World Of Insomnia

Welcome To My World Of Insomnia

A Poem by therisa

Sleep
A five letter word
I've come
To curse
On a nightly basis
As it evades me.

And yet
I've memories
As a young child
Unable to sleep.

Sitting
On the edge
Of my bed.

Listening to
A CFL football game
Dad was watching
On the TV.

Sadly
It has gotten worse
Over the past eight years
With night terrors
And PTSD flashbacks.

To the point
I dread
What may happen
To me.

Weakening my control
Over my diabetes
As my glucose levels spike
Skywards.

As my mental equilibrium
Is knocked
Helter shelter.

And
A lush pair
Of Raccoon eyes
Grace me.

Whenever
I look
Into the mirror.

Maybe
Tomorrow
I'll get lucky
And enjoy
A full night
Of sleep.

One can
Only hope.
