Holiday Tears

Holiday Tears

A Poem by therisa

All around her
People are gathering
To celebrate a holy day
Whose meaning
Is a distant memory
Of better times.

Little kids entranced
By the latest toy
They want to have
Unaware of
The true meaning
Of December 25th.

Gathering around the tree
As the names
Are read out loud
One child rushes around
Handing them out
To the intended person.

Until
all are gone
Except for one
Addressed
To the one person missing
From this celebration.

Whom is
Crying tears of rejection
Because her family
Refuses to accept her
As their daughter and sister
Preferring to call her
By her birth name.

Even though
That person is dead
Never truly alive.

A life
More a lie
Accepted by others
For their comfort sake.

Ignorant
By their choice
Of the pain
Inflicted by their action
Upon her.
