Some escalation would help to wind up the reader's apprehension -- reach for it, stretch for it, leap for it...

Second line ends with a "this" -- should 'road' follow?

I'm not sure about the first stanza at all. I don't really get much from it personally.


However, the second stanza slams home -- the only thing I don't get is "bracing face". I definitely understand slipping off at the same footstep each and every time. That feeling that you dust yourself off just to try again to impress those who aren't watching and never cared.

another great one, a lot of passion in the language, yet at the same time there's a lot of great images combined with it. really do like the repetition of the question in each stanza, it keeps your attention throughout.
