[Sweetest Kiss Goodbye]

[Sweetest Kiss Goodbye]

A Poem by ~Wandering Soul~

Soft kisses down my throat
Followed swiftly by harsh bitterness
My senses slowly dimmed away
Vodka enticing me through this mess

With drugs; my defense against
The brutality of reality
As ecstasy and vodka mix
The sweet release of sanity

The memories and related pain
Fade with drugged awareness
This deadly sleep I induced
Please; leave me here senseless

Slip from my stool so far away
The terror gone that forced me here
Can’t say I’m sorry; but goodbye
No tears shed in knowing death is near

Your first two lines remind me of a quote that I've always felt suited my love life to a T : "I've never tasted a sweet that wasn't bitter". Don't ask me who I quoted, for all I know it's me, lol!! But I don't really think so.

I like how you played on the regulated rhyme scheme that screams in contrast with the theme of the poem. Plus, your rhyming is natural, unlike some that present an overly cautious attempt to make the words rhyme.

Very nicely done. Thanks for sharing!

Rachel, you will be an excellent poet if you keep working like this. As much as I don't read poems to pick out bits I don't like or agree with I do seem to do that an awful lot. This one though is very good - would be better if you removed the 'the's from the beginning of a few of the sentences though. Otherwise I really enjoyed reading this (although the subject matter is obviously sad)

A very haunting and disturbing piece. One hopes it is not speaking from personal experience, Rachel! You do get the incoherence down very well. It is extremely thought-provoking....

A very good look at this perspective. Well written how the sence of substances can take away for reality.
