A Writer's Prayer for Inspiration

A Writer's Prayer for Inspiration

A Poem by Sarah Marie

May the inspiration come proudly,
And may it come without hesitance;
May inspiration course through one’s bones
And put the writer in its trance.
May it captivate and steal the soul,
Become like blood pumping through the veins;
Only then will the writer be whole,
Complete and content until it wanes.
May it make one forget who he
Or she used to be before the high,
This drug called inspiration too strong
To abandon, abuse, or deny;
One is nothing without his or her
Beliefs, thoughts, opinions, hopes and dreams-
Inspiration fills the hated void,
Acting like fine string and stitching seams.
May this higher power consume
Those in need of its infamous touch;
May it cradle, and may it embrace
Those writers, creators in need of such-
May it flow like rivers to the spring,
Shine like gleaming suns over a brook,
Soar overhead on white-silver wings,
And form into song, poem, or book.

Loved your longing, powerful prayer. Inspiration... ancient word from "breath" or "breathe." As the very spirit of God breathed into Adam and made him alive, so yes, inspiration is that force that flows into the artist to bring forth new life. Your inspirations speak deeply to me, dear poet.

No problem ^^
Wow, very deep; and something I think all writers can relate to. It very much reminds me of the beginning of the Illiad, where Homer is asking his muse to inspire him to create the story that he is about to write down.
Good repetitive use of "may it".
I think my favourite parts of this poem are "One is nothing without his or her Beliefs, thoughts, opinions, hopes and dreams- Inspiration fills the hated void, Acting like fine string and stitching seams." and "May it flow like rivers to the spring, Shine like gleaming suns over a brook, Soar overhead on white-silver wings, And form into song, poem, or book."
I may write this on the front of my writer's journal...
