Spare Change

Spare Change

A Poem by Mauricio Montoya

Spare Change

Please don’t knock on a door unwilling to open

Nor blow wind through a window that remains closed

With the walls that surround it

For I sit inside with a roof above me

And the foundation below me

I am willing to open the door

If the knock is appropriate

Because change

Does not come in the direction in which the wind blows

But from within

I understand your viewpoint on change, but I don't understand the word "spare" in your title. Do we only have a limited amount of change within us and we are not sure how much we have? Sometimes we have the capability of more change than we can ever imagine. How do you determine what is the appropriate "knock?" Sometimes we are forced to accept and change or we continue to sit alone in our shelter, but it is only an existence not really "living." I really appreciated the last two lines, they are very true.

Yes, you must accept responsibility for yourself and take the first step!
Changes does come from within, and it is better to recognize it and not wait for it to happen in others. A good attitude is worth a million smiles!!

very beautiful, Mauricio, change most certainly can only come from within. It's as if the soul inside is pleading with its human to stop looking without for guidance.

You speak in powerful metaphors mingled in cold reality that makes us ponder our world so much more. May we learn to listen to the voice within.
